I work in silence: no radio or internet searching, and very few connection with the outside. I would start listening at the silence in the studio, then walk around the space, tidying, and looking for things… In approaching my painting activity I work from above the surface like the cartographer – or from straight on like the viewer. I focus on an artwork during long hours. At the end of the day I will make a ‘collateral work’ with no other motives than to release the tension, and experiment with materials.
