‘Royal Iris an Incredible Journey’ April 2013 in Mayfair
15-21 April 2013, 54 The Gallery, 54 Shepherd Market, London W1J 7QX

In this show I do not claim but rather reinvent Iris’s Journey, aiming only to expand her story into my work and the outside world, the so-called reality. I have curated the exhibition from A to Z. Visitors and collectors have embarked on Iris, liberated and free to sail across many a sea. Questioning new landscapes, visiting what has been and will be, the joy and trouble, the telling of two tales in one.

Iris and I – an incredible journey

> A new vision for Iris

I attracted the attention of the media and press with my new captivating subject: The Royal Iris, a historic ferryboat moored in Woolwich next to my studio.

‘RIP TIDE & BLUE RIPPLES’ – May 2010, London

In 2008, Lorraine was commissioned to create a large painting representing the Sea. Through this unique painting project a new pictorial questioning was uncovered enabling connections with the past and present. This formed the foundations of what would become Fossi’s ‘Sea Abstractions Collection.’

In May 2010 Lorraine Fossi exhibited her Sea paintings in a solo show at the Burgh House in Hampstead.
Several of these paintings were bought by private collectors, including Moses’s Hand and Gibraltar.

Press Release:

London’s exciting new venue for contemporary art, The Mermaid, presents Lorraine Fossi’s Sea Paintings – Immersion. The paintings are rawly emotional and abstract while keeping a strong anchor in the materiality of the sea. You recognise a rock, a wave, a bridge, the freshness of bathing or the danger beyond the breaking waves. The work is inviting you to go deeper, to experience the immensity of space above and below the water.

The sea is inherently abstract – it is a mass but you can pass through it – it is my fantasy of the ultimate refuge,’ says the artist. In the process of painting, Fossi is continually reimagining a relation between detail and a sense of vastness. Her art resonates, forming a deep connection with the viewer. It allows the viewer to enter and be immersed in the water, and to leave with an impression, or maybe a memory of something that might have changed…the echoes of absorbing reverie.
